Responsibilities:

The Florida State University College of Communication and Information is seeking a full-time Director of Live Event Production and Instruction. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong managerial skills and professional experience in live event production for in-venue, broadcast, and streaming platforms, as well as the ability to teach college-level Multiple Camera Production and Video Workshop courses. Preference will be given to candidates who can contribute to the development of the College’s live event production facilities and build connections with internal and external clients.

In addition to teaching two courses per semester, the Director of Live Event Production and Instruction will serve as unit head and oversee live event production operations within the College of Communication and Information, including planning and budgeting, client proposals and contracts, facility operations and management, and personnel and production supervision. The position reports directly to the Dean of the College of Communication and Information.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with internal and external clients, University leadership and personnel, students, freelancers, and vendors, to develop and deliver live content for in-venue, broadcast, and streaming platforms.
  • Serve as a specialized instructor in the Florida State University College of Communication and Information who will teach Multiple Camera Studio Production and Video Workshop courses, and possibly other courses in related areas.
  • Manage and maintain equipment and facilities used for live event production.
  • Engage in professional development, including staying current with industry trends and advancements in live event production.
  • Participate in Department, College, University, and community service activities as needed.
  • Coordinate and conduct an annual evaluation of the Live Event Production Unit in conjunction with the Dean of the College of Communication and Information and other senior leadership.

Qualifications:

Academic master’s degree or highest-level terminal degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate field of specialization or equivalent qualifications based on professional experience.

Preferred:

  • Advanced knowledge and experience producing and directing live events utilizing professional broadcast camera systems (i.e. Sony, Panasonic), professional switcher operation (i.e. Ross, Grass Valley), signal routing, graphic creation and programming (i.e. Ross Xpression & Tessera, Chyron), audio console operation and routing, intercom systems and routing, and other technologies required for professional live broadcast production.
  • Knowledge and experience in venue entertainment, including producing, directing, and programming content for video boards and non-traditional displays such as LED ribbon boards, and working with facility engineers for seamless signal routing and data processing.
  • Ability to successfully work with university students, including in one-on-one, classroom, and professional live production settings.
  • Ability to develop and implement policies, procedures, goals, and objectives for the College of Communication and Information’s live production unit.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays.
  • Experience using nonlinear editing systems such as Adobe Premiere, AVID Media Composer, or other high-end editing software solutions is preferred but not required.
