Division Head Librarian, Customer Services Division, Boynton Beach (FL) City Library

 
This is a part-time position and does not consist of any benefits. The position is management-level professional library work as the head of the Customer Services Division including planning, coordination and oversight, and is a member of the Library Administrative Team that plans and develops overall goals, objectives, policies and procedures.

Representative Essential Functions (not in order of importance):   **Supervise, direct and evaluate assigned professional and paraprofessional staff; process employee concerns and problems; direct work; counsel, discipline and complete employee performance appraisals; monitor and evaluate volunteer program. **Create new divisional procedures and recommend new policy for library services; coordinate administrative policies.  **Analyze and evaluate data; create statistical and other operational reports; create special reports; responsible for divisional fiscal and administrative records.  **Collect and evaluate information on community needs; confer with the public; serve as direct line between customers and the library. **Establish divisional goals and objectives for professional and paraprofessional staff.  **Assist in planning marketing strategies for all areas of the library.  **Represent library on outside community and library network groups.  **Dispense appropriate information to the library director.  **Take part in required City meetings and training and professional and staff meetings.  **Function as member of the Library Management Team; assist in planning, developing and implementing the Library’s long-range plan and annual plan of service.  **Review and evaluate professional literature for collection development and technical services.  **Plan for compliance with local, state and national standards. **Oversee library’s customer-services subdivision. **Implement and supervise the collection development plan by analyzing collections’ strengths and weaknesses, reviewing customer requests and making appropriate recommendations for additions and deletions.  **Assist in promotion of the library; speak to community groups; arrange tours and other special activities; design and implement response to public needs and concerns.  **Research information-retrieval methods and techniques.  **Conduct in-service   training for professional and paraprofessional staff including orientation within division.  **Prepare scheduling of staff for all service points; evaluate staffing levels.

Minimum Qualifications:    ALA-accredited MLIS supplemented by three years of previous experience involving professional library work with extensive supervisory experience. Possession and maintenance of a valid FL driver license. Knowledge of professional library principles, practices and techniques and current literature, trends and developments in the field of library science appropriate to the area of assignment.

Preferred Qualifications:  Experience working in a union environment and collection development. Three years of previous public-library experience in a supervisory role.

Salary:    $24.96 per hour
