The intent is to provide full coverage of the research and outreach conducted at the FSUCML. This person is expected to explore emerging methods of promotion for the FSU Coastal and Marine Laboratory that will attract people in the communities of Franklin, Wakulla, and Leon counties and beyond to know who we are, what we do, and excite them to be part of the action.

Among the ongoing duties for the person in this position are:

Coordinates & develops outreach for the following events
Lecture Series (Monthly) and Lunch Bunch Series (ad hoc). Faculty defines speakers; outreach person works with speaker to develop announcements; prepares & distributes announcements. Staff prepares auditorium and reception)
Workshops – works with artists, writers, scientists to develop weekend workshops for the public; develop & distribute announcements
Display development, organization and staffing at outreach events
Whatever Floats Your Boat Regatta (Annual) Open House (Bienniel in odd years) – works with the entire staff to coordinate these events
Newsletters – compiles content with Director, distributes
Website – ensures that we have news/event items regularly for FSUCML website and for FSUCML Facebook. All lectures and workshops go on the FSU Calendar and will appear on the website
Distributes mailing through email CONSTANT CONTACT lists.
Maintains FSUCML heritage protocol records

Qualifications

The FSUCML seeks an Outreach Coordinator for a full-time OPS position. The successful candidate will be outgoing, like to meet and talk to people, have an open mind, loads of imagination, strong initiative, and be willing to help us develop new communication strategies that will bring more attention to the excellent research being conducted by the scientists associated with the lab. The successful candidate should be proficient in the use of social media (e.g., facebook, twitter) and be able to conduct interviews with faculty and visiting scientists using videography. Strong communications skills a must. Marketing experience preferred.
