Responsibilities

This position designs and produces print and digital publications for the University Libraries ensuring that all materials meet the University print and branding guidelines. This position will also provide support for the design and visual appearance of the library website and assist the libraries’ Marketing Coordinator on planning and implementing marketing, social media, and communications initiatives.

Design for print, including FSU Libraries’ annual report, brochures, flyers, posters, banners, logos, illustrations, and signage. This includes creative concept development through meetings with appropriate staff to determine project scope and purpose, budget, and timeline; preparing and securing vendor quotes; obtaining the required information, art, and photos from appropriate sources or creating the required material; organizing materials and developing layouts; creating electronic files using layout and related graphics software; preparing digital files for use by commercial printers; supervising print projects; resolving prepress issues, approving prepress proofs, approving press runs and coordinating the distribution of printed items. Ensures that all print and digital materials are compliant with university, state, and federal guidelines. Provides support, advice, and expertise to Library faculty and staff including student engagement, outreach and senior leadership to promote the creation of informational and promotional materials.

Digital design including web pages, web graphics, digital collections, digital signage, infographics, and social media campaign graphics. Manages photo archives and organizes Library photoshoots and employee headshots. Assists with the development and maintenance of the Libraries’ visual presentation on the website. Assists with managing and maintaining the Libraries’ social media presence related to the FSU Libraries. Social media efforts may include Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.

Contributes to the planning, execution, and evaluation of an annual marketing communications plan. Creates a coordinated visual look for all department materials in accordance with FSU Libraries and FSU branding.

Hires, trains, directs, and evaluates the work of OPS graphic designers and photographers.

Participate in library committees as requested.  Participate in promotional events and serve as library photographer for special events and promotional activities.  Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and six years of experience. (Note: a combination of post high school education and experience equal to six years.)

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Experience with webpage design and current media technology and trends.
  • Experience with applicable computer applications and advance computer functions, including applications in the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to train and supervise employees.
  • Experience planning, implementing, and directing photography, graphics, and audio/visual associated operations.
  • Experience prioritizing, organizing, and performing multiple work assignments simultaneously.
  • Experience in analyzing and determining the most appropriate media for creation of graphic images.
  • Experience with graphic layout techniques and art in digital format.
