Department:  The position is with the Florida State University College of Motion Picture Arts program in West Palm Beach. The College of Motion Picture Arts is offering a new Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Animation and Digital Arts in collaboration with the Digital Domain Institute.
Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and six years of experience, to include three years managing tech teams; or a high school diploma/equivalent and ten years of experience, to include three years managing tech teams. (Note: post-high school education may substitute for experience at an equivalent rate.)
  • Experience with enterprise class Windows, Linux, and Mac OS systems administration.
  • Experience with network design and configuration in a large scale, multiple operating system environment. Systems and media systems engineering management experience in a multi-platform production or education environment, or related experience.
  • Ability to establish priorities, multi-task efficiently, and work with diverse personalities in a high pressure environment while meeting strict deadlines.

Preferred

BS or MS Computer Science or Electrical Engineering is preferred. Experience with large scale pipelines for production, postproduction, visual effects or animation.

Schedule

Requires flexible schedule to include some evening and weekend work when necessary.

Time Limited

This position is time limited with funds being approved on a year to year basis, but the department anticipates funding will continue for the foreseeable future.

Responsibilities

IT Director- FSU College of Motion Picture Arts-Digital Domain Institute (FSU-DDI). Position reports to the Director of Digital Media Programs. The IT Director oversees the management and daily operations of all IT and Media Systems staff at the FSU-DDI facility in West Palm Beach, FL.

Serves as Information Technology Director for FSU-DDI and is responsible for overall direction, planning, system implementation and staffing. Manages the computing facilities, computing systems, media systems, databases, software, audiovisual and technologies. Daily public contact with students, faculty and staff to ensure IT needs are met. Supervises the daily activities of all IT personnel within FSU-DDI.

Consults the Director of Digital Media Programs, the Dean of the College of Motion Picture Arts and DDMG IT Director on strategic planning and determining budgeting needs of the IT department. Researches, evaluates and selects IT equipment, services and media systems. Provides consulting assistance to faculty and staff in development of new and improved teaching, research and business capabilities.

Assists the department with technology asset management. Maintains access to confidential information. Interprets and applies DDI and FSU university connectivity, security and accessibility procedures. Authorizes user sign-ons and passwords to FSU-DDI systems and information. Insures that DDI and FSU Information Technology Guidelines are followed. In collaboration with the Director and Dean, determines/documents policies and procedures and oversees the implementation and enforcement of departmental polices. Ensures documentation is maintained for all systems and services. Responsible for creating and maintaining the facility disaster recovery plan.

Collaborates with the College of Motion Picture Arts and the Digital Domain Media Group (DDMG) to determine functional requirements of the studio and facilities. In addition, designs and maintains the production pipeline for student work. When possible, position is expected to leverage existing systems and services that are managed by FSU and the College of Motion Picture Arts in order provide a consistent student “educational” experience similar to FSU main campus, and ease the administrative burdens and costs.
