Application Engineer I

JOB SUMMARY:

An Application Engineer is responsible for supporting the customer, finding solutions to satisfy customers’ needs and ensuring that Syntech’s products function according to customer specifications, and overseeing the Beta Test program.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide basic Engineering-level support and issue troubleshooting to both internal and external customers.
Provide basic MS SQL database support.
Provide basic IT support such as setting up virtual machines and web applications, and understanding and troubleshooting system security.
Travel as needed to customer sites for problem solving and training.
Assist in conducting pre- and post-sales support including conducting site surveys and recommending product solutions.
Assist in product research, including 3rd party products, as part of Syntech’s overall product offerings.
Engage with selected customers to install, monitor and support new and updated features and products during the product Beta Test cycle.
Assist with the writing and review of technical and end user documentation

Assist as needed with Engineering test efforts

Requirements
JOB REQUIREMENTS:

1 or more year providing technical support.
Must have knowledge of, and the ability to provide basic support in at least one of the following technical areas:

Windows and Linux based operating systems.
Relational database design, administration, and security for Microsoft SQL.
Telecommunication technologies including Ethernet, POTS, cell modems, satellite modems, etc.
Implementing systems that have a mixture of software, firmware, and hardware
Network setup and security.
Software development lifecycle and basic coding skills.
Automotive applications and OBD systems.
Fuels Accounting Systems and Fleet MaintenanceMust possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Must be able to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with both internal and external customers.
Work independently completing workload assignments, meeting milestones and delivery dates.
Must understand the importance of confidential information and handle it in an appropriate manner.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or a closely related field. Comparable experience will be considered.

TRAVEL AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Travel is an essential part of the Application Engineering job function.
May require up to 35% of time traveling and/or being on site at customer locations.
May also require weekend travel.
Length of stay on site is typically 3-5 days.
Must possess a valid driver’s license, have a good driving record with no major violations.
The work environment varies from site to site and can include exposure to:
Heavy machinery
Hazardous materials
Petroleum products, oil, grease, grime, mud, etc.
Outside elements (wind, rain, heat, cold, etc.)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Employee is frequently required to:
Talk, hear, read at close or distant vision, establish peripheral vision and color vision, and maintain depth perception.
Employee may be required to carry, stoop, crouch, reach with hands and arms, work in a confined or tightly spaced area, and work in a repetitive paced motion.
In the Application Engineering position, employee will sit (60%); walk (20%); and stand (20%).
