Responsibilities

Solves complex problems that require a high level of knowledge of information technology.  Manages websites and applications using, but not limited to:  HTML, php, bash, C, perl or python. Responsible for the integration of technologies, creative approaches to solving problems, and innovative use of technology.  Maintains working operations of computer systems by performing maintenance, troubleshooting problems, and documenting related backup procedures.

Oversees the network use and implements and enforces policies.  Installs, tests, and maintains computer equipment and software on the network.  Troubleshoots computer problems and provides technical training and support of software applications for faculty, staff, and students.   Assists faculty and staff with research and teaching projects using Matlab, fortran, and other scientific computing languages.

Serves as departmental resource for recommending hardware and software purchases based upon purpose, compatibility, quality, and cost for departmental users. Works with departments on ordering computer equipment, software, and supplies. Determines when IT items are obsolete, uneconomical, inefficient, or no longer serving a useful function.

Manages core network services in a linux environment, including dhcp, dns, ldap, samba, nfs, and more generally: routing, wifi, authentication, and intrusion detection.  Responsible for maintaining the effective operation of computers used by faculty, staff, and students.  Analyzes users’ needs for configuration, setup, and monitoring of computer systems.   Responsible for the installation, maintenance, and support of specialized computing systems used for scientific research.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, MIS, or other appropriate degree. (Note: In-field higher education will substitute.)

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Ability to document existing and new processes.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.

Ability to utilize problem solving skills.

Working knowledge of Linux, Windows, and Apple related operating systems.

Experience in systems administration including a working knowledge of networking protocols (DHCP, DNS, etc.) and a shared file system (NFS, SMB).

Knowledge of standard programming languages, concepts, practices, and procedures within the technology field.

Preferred

A minimum of two years of work experience in systems administration and desktop support.

Knowledge of Linux scripting, such as bash, Perl, or Python.

Experience with Matlab, fortran, and other scientific computing languages.

Anticipated Salary Range

Salary range is minimum $32,000 to negotiable.

Schedule

If not otherwise specified, schedule is M-F, 8-5.

Background Check Requirements

This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check to include fingerprinting.

Pay Plan

This is an A&P (Administrative and Professional) position.
