Librarian @ Animal Welfare Information Center, National Agricultural Library (USDA)

This position is responsible for supporting the NAL’s AWIC with library-related tasks such as supporting literature and evidence-based reviews, developing technical bibliographies, contributing to NAL’s collections and adding terms and definitions to the thesaurus.

The position is open to recent graduates only (have to have graduated within the last 2 years). This position is remote and is open from January 17th, 2023 to January 30th, 2023 or when 150 applicants have applied.

Duties include:

  • Provide literature searching and evidence-based review support on animal welfare research, animal disease research, biomedical research, veterinary research, and animal science research.
  • Act as a point of contact for knowledge in searching and evaluating agricultural, biomedical, animal welfare/science, and related literature.
  • Support the development of technical bibliographies on topics such as veterinary medicine, animal welfare, biomedical research, and agriculture.
  • Assist in maintaining, identifying, and adding new material to the National Agricultural Library’s Digital Collection(s).
  • Participates in outreach activities to increase public awareness, access to, and use of NAL and AWIC materials and programs.
  • Assists in the development of presentations and other outreach materials to promote NAL and AWIC’s mission.
  • Helps add to and maintain the AWIC vocabulary for the National Agricultural Library Thesaurus (NALT). Tasks may include adding new concepts, definitions, and labels and editing the scheme hierarchy.
  • Supports program objectives supported by the unit and prepare periodic status summary reports for review by the Team Leader.
