Branch Manager–Erlanger Branch, Kenton County (KY) Public Library
DESCRIPTION: The Erlanger branch is one of three branches in the Kenton County Library system and is consistently one of the busiest library buildings in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. In the last fiscal year, the branch circulated over 1.2 million items; held 1,600 programs with 40,000 in attendance; and had 465,000 visitors. The 34,294-square-foot branch was built in 2002 and has 58 staff members.
The Branch Manager is responsible for the planning, administration and evaluation of branch services and programs and will train, develop, supervise and evaluate branch staff. Extensive interaction with the public and other staff members.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
§ Work cooperatively with Administration to establish, implement and evaluate procedures for branch functions.
§ Organize branch services including circulation, reader assistance, reference and programming in a customer-oriented fashion.
§ Supervise branch staff including hiring, training, scheduling and performance evaluation.
§ Assist Administration in planning and setting policy for the facility; represent the branch on the Administrative team and take part in system-wide decision making.
§ Ensure that every customer is provided service in a friendly, efficient manner.
§ Work with Collection Development librarians in selection, withdrawal and replacement of materials.
§ Monitor branch budget.
§ Work collaboratively with supervisors to insure full staffing of facility including evening and weekend hours.
§ Perform duties of other branch staff as necessary.
§ Oversee exterior and interior maintenance of new branch facility built in 2007.
§ Participate in community groups and act as liaison with organizations within the branch service area to develop partnerships that will benefit the library.
§ Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
§ An MLS from an ALA-accredited university.
§ Minimum five years progressively responsible supervisory experience.
§ Excellent communication and public relations skills.
§ Must be a highly motivated team leader who exhibits and promotes good customer-service skills.
§ Ability to work under minimal supervision and to provide supervision to others.
§ Interpersonal skills to effectively deal with the public and coworkers in a positive, professional manner
§ Must have sense of humor
§ Must be flexible and readily adaptable to change and innovation.
§ Experience using windows-based PCs and software. Ability and willingness to learn, adapt and teach new technologies.
§ Must be able to stand, bend, stoop, stretch, reach and kneel.
§ Must be able to lift and carry items weighting 30 lbs. and push book trucks or bins weighing 100+ lbs.
