Responsibilities

The Assistant Librarian supports the long-term goals, policies, and procedures of the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art Library, one of the largest fine arts library collections in the Southeastern United States. This position maintains the library’s cataloging, digital resources, digital collection, and facilitates public access to the collection through the electronic resources such as the Online Public Access Catalog (OCLC). The incumbent also assists the Head of Library services with oversight of volunteers and interns, management of periodicals, budget and some reference assistance.

Typical responsibilities will include:

Works under the general supervision of the Head Librarian and manages, updates, and maintains the library’s electronic catalogue and performs original and copy cataloging based on current standards. Maintains bibliographic records through FSU’s integrated library system and OCLC.
Manages digital resources and digital projects for the library. In collaboration and coordination with other museum departments and FSU, maintains standards for the digitization and cataloguing of library materials. Maintains authority records and performs needed authority work in the database.
Acts as liaison to IT and DAM committee. Will represent the library’s holdings when DAM is implemented.
Manages the budget, periodicals, and assists with reference questions from walk-ins to the library.
Assists with the oversight, training and direction of volunteers and interns. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS)
Knowledge of:

Concepts, principles and practices of collections management to include proper handling, installation, preservation and/or maintenance.
Original and copy cataloguing.
The policies and practices of library services.
Applicable computer applications and basic computer functions such as Microsoft Office Suite.

Ability to lift and transport books within the Ringling Museum campus.
