The School of Information Studies (SIS), an academic unit in the Faculty of Arts at McGill University, invites applications for a tenure-stream appointment at the Assistant Professor rank. The anticipated start date is January 1, 2019. Qualified candidates should have a doctoral degree in information studies or equivalent. In addition, the ideal candidate will have a record of research publications in high quality, peer-reviewed journals, evidence of effective teaching, and clear promise of pursuing an interesting and innovative research agenda. While all teaching is in English, knowledge of French or a willingness to learn French is highly desirable. Research expertise is sought in the general area of Human Information Interaction (HII) and more specifically in one or more of the core areas of: key foundations of the professional and academic discipline of information studies, organization of information, reference and information services, and information search and retrieval.

Ideally, the candidate should also have research expertise in the archival area, including both traditional and digital resource management. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research, teach courses at the graduate level and participate in university and professional community service activities. In addition, candidates are expected to advise and supervise Master’s and Doctoral students in the School.
