The Collections & Discovery Department acquires, organizes, and manages library collections, in all formats, for the USF Library System.  The department’s librarians and staff work collaboratively to ensure efficient access to quality information sources meeting the research and learning needs of the institution’s faculty and students.  Functional units include collections management, cataloging, electronic resources discovery management, and serials.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position participates in the copy cataloging workflows for library resources at USF Libraries Tampa campus. This includes copy cataloging (importing bibliographic data) for a variety of subject matter and formats, consistent with internal policies and procedures. This position performs maintenance on bibliographic records in the library database; this includes cleaning up records, troubleshooting problems and updating holdings. The employee may also be working with large amounts of data in spreadsheet format. This position uses the Alma Integrated Library Platform and OCLC Connexion in accordance with national and international cataloging standards. This Position requires verification of classification numbers, subject headings, and name authorities against established standards. Additionally, the valuation and verification of various data elements against established standards is required. A strict adherence is made to compiling and maintaining statistical data regarding various types and amounts of materials completed. This position requires a high level of attention to detail and technological proficiency in a variety of systems, software and other technological applications.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Participate in the copy cataloging work-flow of all print formats across all campuses and departments to ensure timely access and discovery of library resources. This includes the use of OCLC Connexion to retrieve record, enhancing bib records, creating items and holdings, verifying subject headings, call numbers and name authorities and tracking statistics.

Participate in database maintenance and cleanup projects to ensure the accuracy of the library catalog thereby enhancing the discovery of library resources. This involves troubleshooting issues with catalog records, updating and changing records, working with large data sets, and performing data clean up in the library database.

Participate in cataloging work-flow for all electronic formats to ensure timely access and discovery of library resources. This includes copy cataloging and/or ERM activation of electronic resources, tracking new e-resource purchases, verifying URL links of e-resources and recording e-resource cataloging statistics.

Ensure access and discoverability of the library’s ebook collections by assisting with batch-loading of MARC records into the library database. This includes using import profiles to load records, track ebook loads, and record statistics.

Performs other duties as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM:

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, English, History, or related field and two years of experience. Directly relevant work experience may be substituted for the degree requirement on a year for year basis.

PREFERRED:

Two years’ experience working in an academic library setting; experience performing copy cataloging duties, working knowledge of RDA cataloging standards, Library of Congress Subject Headings and Library of Congress Classification; experience with OCLC Connexion and Integrated Library Systems.
