The Hamlin-Lincoln County (WV) Public Library is seeking its next Library Director. The five-member appointed Board seeks a Director that is dedicated to providing high quality and patron-oriented library services to its rural county of 21,500 people. The system consists of three facilities (two branches and a main library) and employs 4 full-time and 3 part-time employees. The library’s budget of $300,000 is funded through state grants-in-aid to libraries as well as dedicated funding through the County Commission, the Board of Education, and the Town of Hamlin.
Lincoln County libraries encourage life-long learning. Programming initiatives encouraging literacy proficiency include pre-school story hours, regularly scheduled visits from local elementary schools, summer reading programs, STEM and maker-space activities, special programming, and more. The library also facilitates an award winning adult literacy program which is funded through grants.
Hamlin-Lincoln County Public Library is a member of the Western Counties Regional Library System. Through the consortium, the Cabell County Library provides technical service support, resource sharing, a shared circulation and catalog system, interlibrary loan delivery and more. The Lincoln County library system is a “Designate” library which means that it is independent and not under the review or supervision of another library.
The Library Director works closely with the Library Board and is responsible for library development, operations, planning, evaluation and policy implementation as directed by the Board. Budgeting and sound fiscal management skills are necessary.
Requirements/Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include a Master’s in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program. The successful candidate will be community oriented, with administrative and supervisory experience, good communication skills including grant writing knowledge, and experience with accounting using Quick books software.
