RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervises, directs, plans, and coordinates countywide library activities and personnel within the County library system. Plans, develops, implements, and administers policies and procedures governing the County library system’s programs and personnel.
- Prepares and administers the budget for the Library Services Department.
- Prepares work programs, budget estimates, and financial and statistical reports.
- Directs the preparation of regular and special reports, as requested.
- Cooperates and consults with officials of other governmental and educational agencies on common library issues and programs.
- Promotes services provided by the library system throughout the community and speaks to civic and educational groups.
- Keeps informed on advancements and changes in the library field and information technology.
- Plans and recommends development needs and improvements to library services in order to be consistent with growth patterns and community needs.
- Monitors maintenance needs and issues for all library facilities. Acts as a professional advisor and attends meetings with County and local library boards, staff and citizens groups.
- Acts as the liaison between the Library Services Department and County library boards, other local library boards, and Friends groups.
- Writes and reviews grant applications.
- Performs related work as required.
REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from a graduate library school program accredited by the American Library Association with a Master’s degree in Library Science;
PLUS, eight (8) years of progressively responsible professional library experience, including six (6) years in a management capacity.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess or obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida Driver’s license and maintain said license during the term of employment. In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.

Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of library science and administration.
Thorough knowledge of circulation, reference, classification, cataloging and ordering, youth services, and other library functions.
Thorough knowledge of books and authors.
Thorough knowledge of and the ability to, evaluate and interpret community interests and needs.
Good knowledge of computer operations and their applications to the library system.
Ability to plan, organize, and direct library programs and activities.
Ability to plan and determine what resources are necessary in order to provide continuous library services to the community.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, other library professionals, clubs, community groups, government officials, and the public.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Management and supervisory ability.
Salary: $3,631.92 to $3,995.11 bi-weekly. Actual salary negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
