Metadata Analyst, Library @ University of California, Berkeley

Responsibilities
Metadata analysts provide leadership in metadata record acquisition/extraction, analysis, specification writing, transformation, normalization, quality assurance, loading services, and data management. Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate metadata identification.
  • Review and evaluate metadata records.
  • Determine content errors, omissions, and ambiguities that may negatively affect access or aspects of user discovery.
  • Collaborate with Library vendors on issues of metadata availability, delivery, and content.
  • Work closely with multiple library units and stakeholders – notably Library IT and Cataloging & Metadata Services staff — to ensure timely ingest and management of quality metadata across library information databases and systems.
  • Collaborate with library staff to identify and plan metadata service projects, which may include advising units on metadata issues and workflows, participating in workflow analysis and optimization, and identifying and advising on standards and best practices.
  • Engage in post-ingest metadata cleanup projects.
  • Develops training and documentation.
