Music Archivist/Librarian @ Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

Oversee the day-to-day operations, preservation, and access to rare and unique collections in a new music archive and small public library in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Identify at-risk materials, suggest reformatting options, direct projects, digitization, develop workflows, support description, access, and outreach.

 

Job Description

 

Oversees acquisition, care, and management of the collection
Processes collections according to professional standards
Prioritizes and oversee the digitization of the archives
Systematically survey collections and provide storage recommendations
Identify vendors and support RFPs for services
Oversee the stabilization, cleaning, and evaluation of collections
Oversee quality control and monitor conversion quality on in-house and vendor projects
Supervise the digitization of in-house media following international preservation guidelines and best practices and supervise the recording of appropriate administrative and descriptive metadata
Catalog published materials and help create finding aids
Manage, hire, train, and coordinate staff, interns, volunteers
Compile statistics and prepare reports, including project costs.
Assist in assessing intern, student worker, and grant applicants.
Stay current with developments in the field of preservation, digitization, and access
Prepare, conduct, and participate in public outreach and educational opportunities

 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and at least one (1) year professional archival experience with preferred supervisory experience in any field.

 

Preferred Education and Experience:

Master’s degree in archival management, library science, music history/musicology, OR archival certification. Experience working with collection management software, knowledge of bibliographic metadata standards (e.g. RDA, MARC), collection development, and music a plus. Bi-lingual (Arabic-English) and those with an interest in the Arab world are preferred.
