Responsibilities

  • Are you looking for a position in a fast-paced academic library? If so, FSU Libraries are seeking self-motivated and directed Reference Associates who enjoy troubleshooting and finding answers for diverse questions and patrons. Reference Associates will provide both virtual and in-person reference services to library patrons in order to meet all manner of information needs.
  • Responsibilities include providing Virtual Reference assistance in a timely and courteous manner. FSU’s Virtual Reference includes answering questions about library policies, finding relevant resources on a variety of research topics, assisting with citation management, troubleshooting library resources and technology issues, and assisting with directional and campus-related inquiries.
  • Additionally, Reference Associates will physically staff the Research Help Desk, conducting reference interviews and providing library patrons with point of need information services.

Qualifications

Bachelors or two years of experience in a customer service or office environment.

  • Demonstrated effective customer service skills.
  • Time management skills
  • Ability to multitask in a busy environment.
  • Ability to learn new skills quickly and efficiently.
  • Experience providing online technology help.

Preferred

MLS/MLIS degree from program accredited by the American Library Association.
Experience working in a library or a comparable academic setting.
Experience in trouble shooting technology issue and using critical thinking to solve complex problems.
Experience conducting research, teaching, or tutoring.
