STEM Librarian @ SU Libraries

Job Description:

The STEM librarian supports teaching and learning by teaching the information literacy concepts and promoting the understanding of the information ecosystem; uses discipline-specific expertise with STEM information sources to support research; develops relationships with faculty and staff to foster scholarly connections and collaboration; promotes the library’s role within STEM departments and other units on campus; advances librarianship with service, scholarship, and innovative practice.

Job Responsibilities

  • 50% Serves as selector and subject specialist liaison for a range of disciplines within STEM fields. Provides outreach, instruction, and specialized services to faculty and students in those disciplines. Advocates for use of library services and resources. Seeks department and campus partnerships and collaborations. Develops discipline specific Web pages and other internet-based materials, such as tutorials and subject, topic, and course guides.
  • 20% Identifies and locates data sets for researchers across disciplines; provides support for access and re-use conditions of data; identifies software/code to provide recommendations to researchers on re-use of data; provides recommendations to researchers regarding informatics, discovery, and analytical tools; provides support for data citation and referencing.
  • 10% Provides general reference and information services through our AskUs service, chat, and in person interactions, as well library instruction for general sessions. Participates in library outreach and programming events.
  • 15% Works to meet promotion and tenure requirements for research and service.
  • 5% Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s (MLIS, MLS) degree from an ALA-accredited program.
  • 1 year of relevant work experience
  • Experience working with STEM-related resources, particularly those relating to engineering and computer science. A degree in a STEM related field (Bachelor’s or Master’s) can substitute for experience.
