Undergraduate Student Success Librarian @ USF

The Nelson Poynter Memorial Library at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg seeks a vibrant, innovative, collaborative, and service-oriented Undergraduate Student Success Librarian.   This position is a full-time, promotion earning, library faculty appointment (working over 12 months) with professional responsibilities in librarianship, service, and scholarship.  The Undergraduate Student Success Librarian will promote a positive work environment, communicate effectively, and collaborate with library and faculty colleagues in identifying ways to promote library goals and initiatives.  This position is for an Assistant-level Faculty Librarian.

The Undergraduate Student Success Librarian will place a particular emphasis on library services and programs that will contribute to the success of undergraduate students including First Time in College (FTIC), sophomore, and transfer students.  We seek a candidate who genuinely enjoys teaching, helping people, and providing outstanding customer service to patrons. The candidate should also be comfortable working with diverse groups and promoting cultural competency.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop integrated, curriculum-based, library and information literacy instruction in multiple formats for undergraduate students with a particular focus on the First-Year Experience and English composition courses.

Build relationships across the University to support the academic and student services programs for the undergraduate population in order to increase knowledge of library services and resources. Participate and provide library services to university programs and events that support student recruitment, academic preparedness, and retention efforts. Coordinate the library’s participation in First Time in College and Transfer student orientations.

Serve as a liaison to one or more academic departments, being responsible for outreach, instruction, research consultation, access to information, and collection development. Provide library instruction, including course-integrated instruction, workshops, and consultations. Develop and maintain LibGuides and other online self-directed learning materials for assigned departments and outreach areas. Provide research support including research appointments, on-call, email, phone, and chat reference; work evenings and weekends as needed.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM:

Education/Experience Required

  • A master’s degree in Library Science or equivalent from an accredited institution.

  • 1-year experience in an academic research library working on reference, research, and/or instruction in a professional or paraprofessional capacity.

  • Demonstrated promise of substantive independent and collaborative research activities.

  • Commitment to support and contribute to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment.

  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.

PREFERRED:

Education/Experience Preferred

  • Teaching experience and familiarity with online instruction and/or library research guides.

  • A strong user-centered focus.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Demonstrated project management skills.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively on teams.

  • Outreach experience developing working partnerships with clientele and communities.

  • Research publications and presentations at the national, state, university, or departmental level.
