Job Description

The Multi-Media Specialist supports the District’s Communications and Public Engagement efforts while developing and executing graphic designs, printed products, web designs, multi-media presentations and more for the agency’s public information initiatives. This position creates visual communications to convey messages in an effective and aesthetically pleasing manner.

Venues include the agency’s web site, newsletters, printed materials such as brochures, reports, one-pagers, fact sheets, and maps; PowerPoint presentations; social media; education and outreach programs; and videos and photography. Public information materials communicate the resource management work of the agency to the public and aim to promote the District’s mission, programs, and projects.

Duties
Produce public information materials that explain technical information clearly.

Maintain and edit the agency’s internal website (online portal) on a daily basis.

Demonstrate a willingness to receive edits to revise material in accordance with directives from managers as well as the adaptability to make frequent changes to design and content.

Demonstrate a solid ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.

Develop the most effective and efficient approach for each assignment.

Gain an understanding of internal business operations and interests to clearly and concisely design public information materials that convey the agency’s image, mission and services.

Assume personal accountability for contributing a consistent and accurate agency-wide public information strategy. This includes proactively working with subject matter experts and managers on products to achieve annual deliverables.

Maintain business relationships with technical practitioners within the service provider industry (printers and graphic designers).

Stay apprised of new technologies in the field of graphic design and relevant industry trends. Proactively apply knowledge of new trends to all applicable work assignments and share information as appropriate throughout the District.

Work examples include:
Plan and produce any of the agency’s public information components such as newsletters, web sites, videos, digital ads, media support, event support (including creating evites, posters, and one-pagers), education programs, outreach initiatives (including fact sheets), kiosks, exhibits and presentations.

Use layout software and photo editing software frequently and create original visual elements such as digital illustrations to help deliver a message.

Conduct planning meetings with internal customers to fully understand the purpose and target audience of the work product; explains the services and resources available; and agrees on deliverables and timeline.

Develop planning information into a comprehensive and high-quality visual communication product. Ensure that all assignments are completed and adhere to District production standards for content, quality and tone. Ensures new materials are aligned with existing materials for comparable subject matter and audiences.

Complete postproduction phase which includes archiving products and visual data for future projects as well as reviewing the entire process to identify success factors and areas for improvement.

Requirements
A broad knowledge of multi-media design concepts, graphic design terminology, computer hardware and software design packages to complete assignments for major agency initiatives.

Solid knowledge of software in Adobe’s Creative Suite including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator as well as Quark, Issuu, and the Microsoft Office suite of products. Familiarity with a Content Management System (CMS) is preferred.

Employment Guidelines
Typically has Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline such as but not limited to web design, graphic design or communications and 6+ years’ experience that demonstrates measurable career and technical progression.

Licenses
Valid State of Florida Driver’s License required.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment:
Due to the District’s response role and in the total scope of emergency management, this position may at times, be required to provide support before, during and after major storm events and emergency situations, such as hurricanes or other declared emergencies, depending on the assigned emergency response role.

Incumbent receives moderate supervision and guidance related largely to overall or key objectives, critical issues, new concepts and policy matters.

This position is based at headquarters in West Palm Beach, Florida.  Fully or partially remote candidates may be considered for this position.

Salary Minimum

$56,992.00
