Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or other appropriate degree and two years experience or a combination of appropriate post high school education and experience equal to six years.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical persons.
Experience with routers, network support, and wireless networks.
Experience with troubleshooting and diagnosing network problems.
A Florida/Georgia driver’s license or ability to obtain.

Background Check Requirements

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to prioritize, organize, and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.
Experience in troubleshooting, diagnosing, maintaining and repairing a variety of equipment and machinery used in area of work.
Experience with telecommunications, network, and data fields.

Schedule
Work hours: 8am-5pm Monday-Friday.

Responsibilities
This Position serves as a Network Specialist for the FSU Core network. The area of specialization encompasses support of the computer network transport infrastructure. Responsible for the University Core router and network support for ongoing Departmental SLU [Service Level Understanding] expansions pertaining to University Core network, wireless network, and authentication services.  This Position’s duties include regular 24-hour support through the diagnosis of problems and take appropriate action in sharing full responsibilities for the continued operation of the FSU campus network and its link to the World.

Designs and implements campus-wide networking solutions. Specifies, installs, configures, monitors and manages campus Core network infrastructure and access to the internet for the entire University with an emphasis on security and access control software. Collects and analyzes network performance monitoring data. Advises the Associate Director on the ongoing policies and standards to insure that current policies remain up-to-date and relevant in a dynamic network environment. Provides technical advice to ITS [Information Technology Services] Management regarding complex computer/network related problems and applications.

Functions as Project Leader responsible for a coordinated effort in pursuit of solutions to complex networking problems. This includes working with others to define problem solutions; providing coordination in the configuration of network components; and reviewing and editing documentation to assure clear and reliable records of operational systems. This Position will serve as a subject matter expert and technology facilitator. It will not directly supervise staff. It may occasionally supervise OPS employees and contracted service providers or on an as needed basis.
