Recent graduates, applicants with educational or work experience outside of the sciences, and members of communities underrepresented in librarianship and the sciences are strongly encouraged to apply.

Position Duties

Reporting to the Director of Sciences User Engagement, the Open Science and Collections Librarian provides support to faculty, researchers, students, and other stakeholders in making their research outputs more open, findable, and sustainable. In addition, the incumbents will collaborate with colleagues across the Library in developing and maintaining diverse and accessible collections in either engineering and physical sciences or life and health sciences.

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Assist faculty and researchers in identifying open access publishing opportunities including utilization of University of California’s publisher agreements and open access publishing platform eScholarship;
  • Assist faculty and researchers in complying with funder mandated public access and data requirements;
  • Work with faculty and researchers to integrate open science principles into their research workflows;
  • Collaborate with Library colleagues on building, maintaining, and assessing science collections with an emphasis on anti-racist and accessibility driven collection development and assessment and the discovery of open access content;
  • Partner with Library Scholarly Communication and Data Science Center colleagues on outreach, research support, and special projects;
  • Liaise to one or more academic departments and provide subject specific outreach, instructional, and research support;
  • Provide general reference and research support for students, faculty and researchers in the sciences in collaboration with Sciences User Engagement colleagues;
  • Maintain awareness of changes and trends within relevant disciplines and campus programs;
  • Actively contribute to a User Engagement Functional Team and Library wide initiatives; and
  • Work with Library Development to identify, cultivate, and steward donors, collections, and gift funds.
