The Chicago Bears are looking for talented, enthusiastic and passionate Social Media Seasonal who will elevate the social media presence and voice of the Chicago Bears through the club’s social activity. This full time, temporary (40 hrs per week for 40 weeks) role will help engage current fans and grow the next generation of Bears fans by creating and distributing social content that is relevant, timely and innovative across all platforms the club is active on. This role will work within the Social Media Department and across the organization and utilize Chicago Bears social channels to:
- Engage current and new Bears fans in social conversation
- Distribute news and conversations
- Raise awareness of club events and marketing initiatives
- Bring to the table new and innovative ideas for creating content, event coverage, and engaging with the Bears fan base.
The Social Media Seasonal will report to the Social Media Coordinator and be expected to adhere to the brand’s social media strategy and style guidelines at all times when posting to any of the club’s social media accounts. The ideal candidate will demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills as well as a strong knowledge of football and the Chicago Bears organization.
Responsibilities:
- Execution:
- Aid in posting written content, photos, graphics, videos and links on Chicago Bears social channels.
- Promote all content types with the goal of maximizing reach and engagement while being mindful of PR concerns and maintaining the Bears best interest.
- Monitor social media to discover shareable/retweetable content and engagement opportunities both at scale and 1:1.
- Work with the Social Media and Content Departments to capitalize on new opportunities such as emerging social trends, memes and real-time topics of conversation.
- Take the lead on Snapchat – provide both event and gameday coverage on the platform by capturing behind-the-scenes moments and editing/producing specifically for the platform.
- Assist in the planning and maintaining of a social content calendars to ensure posts always go out as anticipated (ex. player birthday posts) and that posting stays consistent on weekends and outside of normal office hours.
- Organize and maintain library of photo & video assets to be easily accessible by other members of the social team and content departments.
- Strategy:
- Participate in brainstorm meetings – bring fresh ideas to the table that will help engage current fans and a younger demo/next generation of Bears fans.
- Assist in developing ways for how content and stories can be shared and told differently across each social media platform.
- Ensure accounts from players, NFL and other sports/leagues/clubs/industry leaders are consistently and effectively monitored to discover trending topics, ideas for content and best practices.
- Internal/External Customer Service:
- Remain trustworthy to ensure team personnel is comfortable with club’s social presence and participating with content creation.
- Build working relationships across the organization to help promote organizational undertakings and strong understanding of social strategies.
- Work with internal departments to proactively respond to fan concerns/complaints in a timely manner.
- Professional Development:
- Monitor industry trends and news to better understand how and where we can best engage fans.
- Monitor changes to platforms and how those changes impact our current strategies.
- Examine available and emerging platforms and make recommendations for club participation.
Experience & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Media, Journalism, Public Relations or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 1-year industry experience or internship managing public-facing social media channels for a brand or sports team. Must be able to provide examples of previous work.
- Strong knowledge/understanding of social media best practices and pitfalls across the industry and social platforms, including (but not limited to): Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok & YouTube.
- Impeccable attention to detail, grammar and proofreading skills.
- Possess professional communication skills, including written and oral correspondence. This includes the ability to establish a rapport with others and build strong interpersonal relationships with a variety of personalities.
- Possess strong time management, organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Must be able to effectively work in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate the ability to juggle multiple tasks and projects while keeping key stakeholders updated.
- Must be dependable, willing to take initiative and able to adapt to a variety of situations.
- Ability to work non-traditional hours in non-traditional settings including some nights, weekends and holidays and able and willing to travel to off-site events, etc. as needed.
- Working knowledge of Photoshop, DSLR camera and principles of photography, videography, graphic design are a plus.
- Experience in sports is a plus.
