Purpose.  The STEM librarian serves as the Libraries liaison to faculty and students within STEM disciplines with emphasis in the Nursing discipline. Primary responsibilities will be to provide quality research services, information literacy instruction and perform knowledge management services.

Essential Functions.  Develops and maintains a working interactive and dynamic relationship with faculty, students and staff in assigned disciplines with emphasis in the nursing discipline; promotes library services and resources; provides individual consulting services to faculty and students; provides research assistance in locating and evaluating information in a variety of formats including virtual reference. Collaborates with faculty to promote the integration of library resources and information literacy into the curriculum that incorporate the use of active learning strategies; works closely with other disciplinary liaison librarians with an outcomes-based approach to plan, develop maintain and assess innovative instructional and outreach programs including teaching materials and subject and topical web-based research guides. Serves as second tier referral for advanced subject research assistance or other specialized areas of expertise (e.g. data services, GIS, open access, citation management) in addition to promoting and recruiting institutional scholarly output, research data and other content for inclusion in the libraries digital initiatives. Analyzes collection characteristics and collection usage data; coordinates with the Content Delivery Librarian and E-Resources Librarian for development and management of the collections to serve the research, teaching and learning needs of the STEM and Nursing academic community, including purchases, transfers and withdrawals for all formats. Participates in and facilitates the relationship between STEM and Nursing faculty members and students, with the Library Directors of Scholarly Communication, Grants and Research and Assessment along with the Data and E-Science librarian and Off-Campus librarian. Assists in extended services through office hours, embedded librarianship, social media and SecondLife. Serves on library, university and professional committees on the local, state and national level and participates in professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge.

Marginal/Incidental functions.  Other functions as assigned.

Required qualifications.  Master’s degree from an American Library Association accredited program (received by date hired). Preferred Qualifications.  Advanced degree in a relevant STEM discipline. Public services experience in an academic library. Knowledge of information literacy theory and practice, various teaching methodologies, and learning styles. Experience with emerging computer technologies and their applications in academic libraries such as Web 2.0 applications. Creativity and experience designing instructional/informational materials, both in print and online. Familiarity with Blackboard course management software including Collaborate. Familiarity with the grant writing process. Experience using SUMMON-Discover ILS system.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
