Strategic Communications Specialist @ TCC

The Strategic Communications Specialist is housed within the Office of Communications and Marketing and reports to the Director of Strategic Communications. The Strategic Communications Specialist is responsible for pitching media, responding to media requests, student-focused social media strategy and management, and data reporting.

Primary duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Writes and edits content for press releases, social media, website, marketing campaigns, and internal and external College communications.
  • Assists in the management of communications technology tools for the department including but not limited to earned media monitoring systems, badging software, and the student communications system.
  • Leads student-facing social media efforts by developing content calendars and engaging content plans, curating content, and tracking performance. Monitors daily social activity and engages communities through relevant content, problem-solving, and customer service. Maintains a database of College-sponsored accounts and audits inventory of official and unofficial social media accounts connected to the College and attempts to rein in unofficial and duplicate sites.
  • Generates regular and as-needed analytics reports to monitor earned media, social content performance, and student communications effectiveness, using performance indicators and industry best practices to continuously enhance efforts.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:  A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field of study, and two (2) years of experience in communications, marketing, journalism, or public relations. Writing, proofreading, content creation, and data analysis experience is highly desired.

SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS WILL DEMONSTRATE THE FOLLOWING: Knowledge, skill and ability to write content for publication that conforms to prescribed Standard English or Associated Press (AP) style and format. Ability to write content using correct spelling, punctuation, grammar and syntax. Knowledge of journalistic, feature creative, and social media writing techniques. Knowledge of modern practices in public relations and marketing including analysis of these integrated marketing communications. Knowledge of news media functions and operations. Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills including public speaking skills and skills consistent with establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Computer competency in the areas of word processing, desktop publishing and other related software. Project management and problem-solving skills. Ability to photograph campus events. Ability to work well with others including faculty, staff, students, news media, community members, and vendors. Ability to work independently, handle multiple priorities, meet critical deadlines and respond to urgent issues as needed.
