Grad Student Selected to Attend June ALA Conference

College of Information graduate student Nancy Armour Enterline has been selected to attend the 2005 Annual Conference of the American Library Association (ALA) in Chicago this June under its Student-to-Staff Program. Through this program, students receive free conference registration, housing, and a per diem for meal expenses in exchange for working four hours per day at the conference.

To qualify, students must be current ALA members, members of a student chapter, and cannot have previously participated in the program. One student from each student chapter is eligible. Nancy’s selection was based on an essay she submitted addressing questions such as how her attendance would fulfill her professional and educational goals, how her attendance would benefit the College of Information, and how she would share her experiences with other students of the College.

The Annual Conference of the ALA takes place each June. It is the largest convention of its kind with over 25,000 librarians, educators, writers, publishers, Friends of Libraries, trustees and special guests attending. It includes more than 2,000 meetings, discussion groups, programs on various topics affecting libraries, tours, and special events. About 1600 companies exhibit their latest books, videos, computers and other materials; prominent speakers, authors and illustrators are in attendance. Professional awards and prestigious book awards (such as the Newbery and Caldecott Medals and Coretta Scott King Awards) are presented.

Congratulations to Nancy Armour Enterline for being selected to attend the 2005 Annual Conference of the ALA in Chicago (June 23 – 29) through its Student-to-Staff Program.
