The first US Air Force Strategic Air Command World Wide Conference for Libraries of the Armed Forces held on a civilian campus was held at the Library School. Observers and monitors sent from the Pentagon arrived by plane at the local airport as well as planes full of librarians, generals, colonels, etc. The side runways at the airport were full of military planes for several days.
