On Friday, April 15, the FSU Student Foundation hosted its first annual Totika Philanthropy & Service Showcase in partnership with the Office of Servant Leadership and Student Alumni Association. The banquet and awards ceremony recognized campus individuals and organizations who are dedicated to philanthropy and service projects that benefit Florida State University and the Tallahassee community. “Totika” is the Seminole word for “fire,” and groups were recognized based on their status as a “spark” organization with a maximum of 25 members, an “ember” organization with a maximum of 75 members or a “flame” organization with over 75 members.
Among the recipients was STARS Alliance, a student organization under the College of Communication & Information dedicated to increase the participation of women, under-represented minorities and persons with disabilities in IT and computing disciplines through multifaceted interventions. The group received the spark award for its commitment to service within the greater Florida State community in 2015. Joey Cardenas was there to accept the awards.
