Location: Richmond, VA
Ideal for a currently enrolled or recently graduated student of library science with an interest in health sciences librarianship. This position offers up to 25 hours per week and the opportunity to work with practicing health sciences librarians. Through experiential learning the individual in this position will be able to build and develop their career portfolio.
Reporting to the Internship Coordinator, this position is responsible for the completion of outreach and research support projects for the Research and Education Department at VCU Libraries Health Sciences Library. The internship experience will provide an opportunity for a librarian at the beginning of their career to gain practical professional experience in an academic health sciences library. The internship experience supports development of an individual using the Medical Library Association’s Competencies for Lifelong Learning and Professional Success. This position will work closely with practicing health sciences librarians and directly with library users, including VCU faculty, students, staff, and has the potential to work with members of the Greater Richmond community. This position will gain the knowledge and skills to provide research and instruction support through meeting with users, conducting library orientations, and presenting library workshops as well as developing skills in evidence synthesis and critical appraisal. Work accomplished by this position will include the creation and maintenance of learning objects such as Research Guides or instructional videos, development of workshop lesson plans, and data analysis and assessment support. The position will work with the Internship Coordinator to establish achievable personal and project goals for the duration of the internship period.

- Employment contingent upon enrollment in or recent completion (no more than two years) from an ALA accredited Master Information or Library Science program.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with research methods and practices, advanced database searching techniques, instructional design techniques or project management skills.
