Paid Internship–Florida Virtual Campus, Integrated Library Services, Distributed Data Coordinator Internship

Overview

Library Internship Available for Spring 2025

Florida Virtual Campus, Library Services Division

The Florida Virtual Campus (FLVC) serves all of Florida’s public postsecondary institutions within the Florida College System (FCS), and the State University System (SUS), and K-12 school districts. FLVC provides educational support services for these institutions and their campuses.

FLVC’s Library Services division provides information, training, tools, and other resources for library staff at the 28 state colleges and 12 public universities in Florida, encompassing more than 150 campus libraries across the state. Our services also include the Alma Integrated Library System (ILS) which provides the libraries with cataloging, circulation, electronic resources, analytics, and other library services to manage their collections. The ILS is the system through which all public postsecondary students, faculty, and staff have access to a collection of over 16 million books, 35 million e-resources, and 1.5 million digital archive items. This shared-services model continues to return significant dividends for the state of Florida in the form of greater efficiency, value generation, cost savings, and optimization of college/university staff, capital, and time.

Internship Duties:

The Florida Virtual Campus Intern program invites undergraduate or graduate students to gain experience with integrated library services and data coordination. Working under the direction of the Director of Integrated Library Services, the intern will be responsible for assisting in building a centralized hub that consolidates statistical data, reports and supplementary information. The data will be used by FLVC Library Services leadership for streamlined access and analysis in reporting and sharing information with library stakeholders.

This will primarily include:

· Organizing data in an easy-to-access and easy-to-use format with links to supporting data from varying digital locations.

· Designing data charts that effectively highlight key points and trends in Fiscal or Calendar-year statistics for easy presentation and interpretation.

· Creating formulas to calculate cost-per-usage for various data points.

The internship strives to provide hands-on experience and job training in information technology, library science, and the organization of information, especially statistical data. There will be opportunities to gain knowledge and train in skills used daily in the field of data collection and presentation, and to gain more knowledge about post-secondary academic libraries and academic library consortia. The intern will produce a final report that details their experience and their feedback and recommendations.
