Role
STARS Computing Corps is a national alliance with a mission to develop computing leaders within institutions of higher education. The program is seeking a motivated graduate student to serve as a Data Analytics Research GA to work on the National Science Foundation (NSF) funded STARS Grant. This role offers a unique opportunity to apply analytical and data science skills to high-impact, real-world university initiatives, directly contributing to STAR’s mission. The work will focus on data collection, survey analysis, and grant support.
Key Responsibilities
The GA will be actively involved in the full data lifecycle:
- Data Analysis & Interpretation: Conduct end-to-end data analysis, including collecting, merging, cleaning, processing, and interpreting datasets
- Report Generation & Communication: Develop compelling, detailed reports and dynamic visualizations using tools like PowerBI to clearly communicate insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders (faculty, staff, and leadership)
- Work on project specific goals:
- Process: Create a process for regularly identifying and updating the alumni/mentor directory
- Utilize the STARS shared Google drive to provide access to all STARS program content
- Track participant attendance and engagement for the Quarterly PD Series (including attendance data)
- Collect data on jobs obtained and in-field/out-of-field employment.
- Manage the initial cleaning, entry, and organization of this quantitative data for analysis
- Draft information needed for program announcements, coordinate communications and calendar invites
- Facilitate program sessions as planned. Compile the documentation, attendance spreadsheets, and draft status updates
- Maintain a schedule of timely deliverables and communications. The GA is the primary manager of the FSU internal task list and progress tracking system
Qualifications
- Current graduate student at FSU
- Demonstrated proficiency in statistical analysis and data visualization tools
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills (written and verbal)
- Proven ability to distill complex analytical findings into clear, actionable recommendations
- Interest in leveraging data science and artificial intelligence (AI) to inform strategic decision-making
- Pursuing a Master’s or PhD in Information/Data Science, Analytics, Business Intelligence, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related STEM field
- Experience working in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment
