Position Focus Statement
The marketing associate is responsible for developing and contributing to integrated marketing communication solutions for technical services to meet university needs. Working as part of the Integrated Communications team within the Information Technology Services (ITS) department, the marketing associate produces and coordinates content across integrated marketing communications channels to maximize awareness, usage and appreciation of campus technology services and initiatives. This employee works closely with teams across ITS to highlight the many ways technology is being used at FSU to enhance the student and employee experience. The successful candidate will have proven experience in managing all aspects of marketing communications campaigns and knowledge of public relations, social media and promotions.
Why is a Graduate Assistant required for this role instead of a standard intern?
A graduate assistant is required for this role because it demands a high level of autonomy, advanced professional proficiency, and prior experience that a standard undergraduate intern typically does not possess. The position explicitly requires a candidate who already has two years of experience in marketing communications, along with advanced skills in marketing development, technology communication, and editing. Unlike a standard instructional internship, this role requires the individual to exercise advanced judgment and professional maturity, which is highlighted by the responsibility to review, proof, and edit materials prepared by other staff members within the department.
What responsibilities or projects will this GA complete that require graduate-level knowledge or skills?
The responsibilities of this position require graduate-level knowledge to bridge the gap between complex technological services and general university audiences. The assistant will independently plan, develop, and implement comprehensive marketing campaigns for information technology initiatives, which involves translating dense, technical data from internal IT teams into clear and accessible communications. The role involves advanced strategic content generation, such as crafting targeted messaging across various communication channels, conducting professional interviews to write feature articles, and working with a team to apply advanced audio and video techniques to produce high-quality multimedia content.
What outcomes or deliverables do you expect this GA to produce by the end of the semester?
By the end of the semester, working with a team, the graduate assistant is expected to produce a variety of tangible marketing and communication deliverables that support the university’s strategic goals. These outcomes include successfully executed integrated marketing campaigns that increase awareness and usage of campus technology services. The assistant will deliver a portfolio of written and edited content spanning website copy, promotional emails, digital presentations, print brochures, and published feature stories. Additionally, they will deliver an actively maintained and accurate public-facing calendar of events, a coordinated schedule of social media promotions, and polished multimedia assets including edited audio and video components.
