Job Description:

The Department of Education and Counseling in the College of Education, Health, and Human Services invites applications for a tenure-track, full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor of School Librarianship (F0190) beginning in August 2027. For qualified candidates, an earlier start date of January 2027 may be possible.

The School Librarianship Program has been a graduate program for over 35 years and serves 100+ part-time students. The College is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and the School Librarianship Program is Nationally Recognized by the American Library Association/American Association of School Librarians (ALA/AASL).

The successful candidate will teach graduate courses in school librarianship on and off campus and via online delivery systems; supervise students completing clinical experiences; advise students; collaborate with colleagues both within the program and across campus; and engage in scholarly research and professional service activities. The standard teaching load is 9 credit hours per semester. In addition to the primary responsibility of teaching, faculty are also expected to engage in relevant scholarship and professional activities and to be committed to service at the departmental, college, and university levels.

This position is located in Farmville, Virginia, and is required to work in person on Longwood University’s campus.

Requirements:

  • A doctorate in education or library science or an ALA-accredited Master of Library Science or equivalent required
  • Successful experience working as a school librarian
  • Current teaching licensure in school librarianship/school library media or eligibility for licensure
  • Evidence of scholarship related to school libraries – research, publication, and/or presentations at the state or national level
  • Active participation in professional associations
  • Background in children’s and/or young adult literature is preferred
  • Higher education teaching experience at the graduate level is preferred
  • Experience working with post-traditional students is preferred

Additional Information:

This position is a full-time, tenure-track, instructional faculty position. The anticipated salary range for this position will be $70,000 – $75,000 annually. A successful fingerprint-based criminal background investigation is required. AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, and other national service alumni are encouraged to apply.
