For Sarah Morris, the versatility of a communication degree was the key to unlocking many career possibilities. As an undergraduate at Florida State University’s School of Communication, she was involved in Ad Club, Arrowhead Advertising, and the Director’s Ambassador program—gaining hands-on experience that shaped her career.

Morris’ passion for media led her to pursue a Master’s in Media Communication Studies (MCS), where she developed her understanding of marketing and strengthened her relationships with faculty. “The transition was seamless since I already knew many of the professors,” Morris said.

One of the most important experiences for Morris was Arrowhead Advertising, a student-run advertising team that closely mirrors agency dynamics in the real world. “After working in an agency, I can say Arrowhead truly prepared me. It gave me something tangible to speak about in a job interview,” Morris said.

Now a Junior Account Manager at GRADIENT, a top experiential marketing agency in New York, Morris thrives in the fast-paced world of experiential marketing. Her role involves project coordination, client communication and event execution. “Every day is different,” she shares. “It’s important to be organized and to be able to communicate and relay messages in a way that is clear and concise. Being approachable to clients and your internal team is essential.”

Morris credits her time at FSU for providing her with essential industry knowledge. For current students, she emphasizes the importance of networking and involvement. “You never know who’s paying attention or who might offer you a job in the future,” Morris said. “Take advantage of every opportunity and be open to trying new things.”

Looking ahead, Morris hopes to move up within GRADIENT while keeping an eye on the developing role of Artificial Intelligence in media.
