Challenger Learning Center Celebrates Twentieth Anniversary

Notice any changes around the Challenger Learning Center of Tallahassee (CLC)? That’s because iSchool alumnus Alan Hanstein has been pioneering new updates as the CLC celebrates its twentieth anniversary.

The CLC is the K-12 outreach facility of the Florida A&M University – Florida State University College of Engineering. Its mission is to provide students and their families with high-quality educational experiences through the use of its IMAX® Theater, Planetarium, Space Mission Simulator, and demonstrational activities.

“Our mission to inspire young minds has not changed since our founding as we continuously work to incorporate the latest technology to provide students and families with exciting, ‘hands-on, minds-on’ educational experiences,” said Hanstein.

Hanstein has served as Executive Director for the past two years and served on the board of directors for an additional 18 years. Having been a part of the CLC since its founding in 2003, Hanstein is eager to celebrate its twentieth anniversary with educators, students, and other supporters throughout the Tallahassee community.

This weekend’s anniversary event will explore updates coming to the CLC, including new tutoring and outreach programs, renovations to the planetarium and mission simulator, and much more. It includes a cocktail hour followed by a presentation of guest speakers and awards, including Astronauts Dr. Norm Thagard and Captain Winston Scott, both of whom were instrumental founders of the Challenger Learning Center of Tallahassee.
