College of Communication alumnus Ryan McCormick is making waves in the world of public relations. He graduated from Florida State in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in Media Production before working in several impressive media and public relations (PR) roles including being a senior producer at CBS-TV, writer for the New York Post, and communications director for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Long Island Chapter.
In 2010, McCormick and his fellow co-founder Mark Goldman decided to start their own company–Goldman McCormick Media Relations (GMPR) – to fulfill their distinct vision of how they wanted to serve clients and operate as a company. GMPR has received several awards for their impressive work including being named one of America’s Best PR Firms by Forbes in 2021. The firm also received a Gold Award for “Best Cause/Advocacy Campaign” in the Bulldog Reporter’s CSR Awards for their work on the Nick Hillary case which later became the two-part HBO series “Who Killed Garret Phillips.”
Because of Ryan’s years of experience in public relations and communications, he was selected by Vice TV to serve as a crisis communications expert in their new series “Nine Lives Of.”
Ryan McCormick has recently joined CCI’s Speakers Bureau, a group of college alumni and friends who donate their time to share their professional experiences and knowledge with current CCI students through classroom visits, panels, and special events.
On his decision to join the bureau, he shared, “I love Florida State University. It’s an institution that exemplifies excellence and integrity… I hope to teach students some practical skills that they can utilize not only in PR but also in other careers. I would like to show them how invaluable a mentorship or apprenticeship is. Also, hard work and preparedness are crucial; however, your reputation is what will always precede you.”
