CCI is proud to report that Dr. Pablo Correa (’18 Ph.D. Communication) accepted a new position as the founding Director of Digital Media and Communication at the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) in West Hartford, Connecticut. Correa’s inspiring journey began in a rough neighborhood, included several detours, and ended with incredible success in academia. When he graduated with his Ph.D. in Communication in 2018, we knew this would certainly not be the end of his successes, but merely the beginning.
For the past two years, Correa has been a visiting professor at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon. Now, he is on the move to USJ where he will direct, implement, and teach courses such as Social Media in Contemporary Society, Introduction to Mass Media, Graphic Arts, and Digital Design, Video Production, and Video Editing. “This is a unique position because there are two concentrations, Spanish and Sports Communication,” says Correa. “My background/Bachelor’s in Spanish combined with the work I did with Seminole Sports at FSU really combine well to help me teach courses in both concentrations.” He continues, “I tell everyone that my favorite part of when I was in school was learning how to combine communication and rhetorical theory with creating digital media and making films. I am excited that I am now able to share that enthusiasm with students and help to teach the next generation of innovative media producers.”
Correa is coming into a fairly new program for USJ and a large part of his responsibilities will be to promote the program, instruct digital media courses, and foster/maintain relationships with local organizations such as Connecticut Public TV for student internships and industry connections. He will be working with USJ’s VP of Marketing and Public Affairs, Diana Sousa, and Instructional Designer and Program Coordinator, Kaitlin Walsh.
Walsh explains the partnership, saying, “I was involved in launching the program, but Pablo’s role will involve bringing it forward.” Sousa adds, “We are very excited for Pablo to join us this summer.” Correa reflects this sentiment saying, “The entire faculty at USJ has been so welcoming and I am excited to work together to build this program up.”
His long-time supporter and former instructor in FSU School of Communication, Davis Houck, says, “For Dr. Correa to be named as the very first Director of Digital Media at the University of Saint Joseph is a testament to his hard work and accomplishments since he graduated in 2018. It’s also a testament to the quality of education he received here in the School of Communication at FSU. Pablo has spent the last year-and-a-half at Willamette University in Salem, OR, one of the best liberal arts colleges in the country. To no one’s surprise, he very quickly became one of their most in-demand professors. I have no doubts the students at USJ will receive him similarly.”
CCI wishes Dr. Correa the absolute best in this next step of his journey and looks forward to the next time we get to share his good news.
