Lateef Ayinde, PhD candidate at the School of Information, received the New Leader Award from the Association for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T).
ASIS&T closes the gap between information science professionals and students that want to take their research and apply it in practice. Ayinde’s work focuses on artificial intelligence and information policy and the impacts they have on the development of society.
By receiving this award, Ayinde will have the opportunity to become a global leader in the shifting the future of information science.
“[I] will also be assigned to work closely with a Chapter, SIG, Volunteer or Staff Leader in ASIS&T. You will have your assignments which you will work on based on ASIS&T,” Ayinde said.
Ayinde will also have the opportunity to further his goals of shifting iSchools Curriculum, across the nation. “It is very important to teach AI literacy, consider its role in curricula interdisciplinarity, social, political, and ethical implications, and present pedagogical examples. This calls for rebranding the Information Science and Technology schools’ curriculum to fit into the Gen AI literacy world,” said Ayinde.
Ayinde will be taking his experience and discussing the future of AI at a panel discussion for the ASIS&T annual conference in Washington D.C, November 2025.
“AI is the future, and the future starts from now. I will be leading a panel discussion at the 2025 ASIS&T Conference with top professors in the world, Canada and the U.S. We will be talking about the future of AI in information schools, which is how we teach AI literacy in iSchools,” said Ayinde.
