Mr. Asif Ali Bhatti, a senior correspondent and anchor for Geo News in Islamabad, Pakistan, will speak on “New Media and Political Change in South Asia” at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, in University Center Building D, Room 2102.
Mr. Bhatti is a senior journalist working with the largest media group in Pakistan. He started his journalistic career in 1996 with Jang newspaper — an Urdu-language newspaper that is widely circulated in all corners of the country. When broadcast media was liberalized in Pakistan in early 2000, Mr. Bhatti joined Geo Television of the same group and has covered many important areas including the war on terrorism.
Currently, he is working as a senior correspondent with Geo News and serves as an anchorperson with his program, Parliament Diary/Point of Order, which is widely viewed among policymakers and diplomatic circles. He is also a visiting faculty member at prestigious universities in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, and he is frequently invited by national and international journalists’ organizations for talks and training activities.
A guest of FSU’s School of Communication, Mr. Bhatti’s visit is supported by the John H. Phipps Fund at the FSU Foundation. For more information, please contact Dr. Steve McDowell, director of the School of Communication, at 850-644-2276 or steve.mcdowell@cci.fsu.edu.
