Zeigler to speak at faculty luncheon on 'Why We Still Teach'

Mark T. Zeigler, a research associate and instructor in the School of Communication and the recipient of the 2008 University Distinguished Teaching Award, will speak Feb. 14 at the Spring 2012 Faculty Luncheon Series at the Presbyterian University Center, 548 W. Park Ave.

The topic for this spring’s series, “Why We Still Teach,” is being discussed by four distinguished and nationally recognized faculty members from Florida State. Amid years of university budget cuts, constant concerns about a faculty “brain drain” and changing ideas about the purpose of higher education, the speakers will talk about why they still love working with students and sharing their knowledge and experiences in the fields they have made their life’s work.

This is the second Faculty Luncheon Series event of the semester. The deadline for reservations is noon Feb. 10. Seating is limited. The luncheon begins at 12:15 p.m. and the program begins at 12:40 p.m. WFSU-TV televises each event after it takes place on Comcast Cable Channel 4, the 4FSU Channel.

Future speakers in the series are Jill Quadagno and Dennis Moore. Quadango, the Mildred and Claude Pepper Eminent Scholar in Social Gerontology and 2011 recipient of the University Distinguished Teaching Award, will speak March 13. Moore, an associate professor in the Department of English and 1999 recipient of the University Distinguished Teaching Award, will speak April 17.
