Dr. Yasmeen Hamza joins SCSD this Fall as an Assistant Professor. An MD by training, Hamza practiced clinically for five years as an audiovestibular specialist before completing her Ph.D. and transitioning into academia. Her studies and research have taken her around the world, from Dubai to Egypt to Europe (Belgium and Greece) and finally to the USA, where she has worked and studied in New York, California, and now FSU.
“I am excited to join the School of Communication Science and Disorders at FSU as it presents a great opportunity for growth and success,” says Hamza. “I look forward to establishing my research lab and working with students and my wonderful colleagues who would be great collaborators.”
While here, Hamza hopes to continue to study the impact of hearing loss on cognition, listening effort, and quality of life. She has even joined the Institute for Successful Longevity (ISL) at FSU as an affiliate faculty member.
“I hope I will be able to provide [students] guidance in different aspects (clinical, technical, and research skills) but also the possibilities and opportunities out there,” says Hamza. “I cherish my students, and I love watching them grow. Their success is our success!”
Outside of academics, Hamza also loves travel and international cuisine. So far, she has lived in Asia, Africa, Europe, and North America!
