Marcia Mardis has a new book hitting shelves this year. The associate professor at Florida State University‘s School of Information wrote The Collection’s at the Core: Revitalize Your Library with Innovative Resources for the Common Core and STEM.
As a former school administrator and school librarian with 15 years experience, Mardis takes a look at K-12 STEM initiatives. Within 147 pages, Mardis helps librarians understand STEM and it’s importance, as well as the value of high-quality, free STEM multimedia in library collections.
Since the Common Core State Standards Initiative released in June 2010, many schools are seeking to meet and exceed standards in Mathematics. Similarly, Next Generation Science Standards were adopted in many states in April 2013, creating new benchmarks for schools to meet. Mardis covers the importance of STEM collections that meet national standards for science, health, technology, engineering and mathematics.
The Collection’s at the Core: Revitalize Your Library with Innovative Resources for the Common Core and STEM is available on Amazon.
