The Florida State University School of Information (iSchool) continues to demonstrate its longstanding leadership in library and information science education with a strong presence at the 2025 Association for Library and Information Science Education (ALISE) Annual Conference, held in Kansas City, Missouri, from October 6-8, 2025.
This year marked the 125th anniversary of ALISE, an organization dedicated to advancing excellence in research, teaching, and service across the information disciplines. For decades, ALISE has provided a vital platform for scholars, educators, and practitioners to exchange ideas and shape the future of the field.
The iSchool was represented by a robust mix of eight faculty members, five current doctoral students, and eleven alumni, each contributing to the dialogue that defines the conference. Through paper presentations, research discussions, and networking events, the FSU community made its presence known across sessions that highlighted innovation, collaboration, and the evolving role of information in a digital society.
“Once again, our iSchool made a big splash at ALISE,” said Dr. Melissa Gross, Professor at the School of Information, who has attended the conference annually since 1997. “We had many current faculty and doctoral students in attendance as well as alumni presenting papers. This was the 125th anniversary of the association and it is still going strong! It was wonderful to see so many new faculty and doctoral students there from all around the country.”
For students, ALISE represents more than just an academic gathering; it’s an entry point into a broader professional community. The iSchool’s student attendees connected directly with leaders in the field, gained insight into emerging research trends, and presented their own work alongside respected scholars.
The conference also served as a reminder of the iSchool’s deep alumni network and the ongoing influence of its graduates, many of whom are now advancing research, policy, and innovation in organizations around the world.
As technology continues to transform how we access, share, and manage knowledge, the iSchool remains at the forefront of preparing students for success in a rapidly changing landscape. Events like ALISE celebrate the achievements of the present but also illuminate the possibilities of the future.
