Meet Elizabeth Uchimura, a double Masters student in Musicology and Information. Her two majors collide at work where she serves as the Assistant Music Cataloger at FSU’s Allen Music Library. Uchimura was recently appointed to a Citizen Service Organization called “Friends of the State Library & Archives” which was reactivated by the State Library. “It is comprised of a volunteer board whose members have been gathered from throughout the State,” explains President Gene Coppola. The group has three goals according to their webpage:
- Work towards preservation, expansion and promotion of Florida’s documentary history.
- Promote the State Library & Archives of Florida.
- Raise awareness of our many contributions to the state’s communities.
Uchimura was appointed to the board and will be serving until August 2021. “I was really interested in serving on this board as a way to get more directly involved with my local and statewide community, and also because I’ll be able to gain valuable experience outside of the academic and music disciplines. I’m looking forward to learning more about the library division and assisting in any way that I can,” she explains.
