The Ave Maria School of Law located in the Vineyards in Naples, FL seeks an intern from a local college or university for an unpaid position guaranteed to provide experience in a variety of law librarianship work that includes circulation, research and reference services. A grade point average of 3.0 is required. Interns must have a class schedule that allows him/her to work at least two days each week for at least four hours each day. Interns must have completed their freshman year and have basic skills with Microsoft software, internet searching, circulation processes and great customer service skills.
This is an unpaid internship. Any college credit earned by this internship would need to be through a field study course or program offered at your University and the specific department you are studying in, and you would need to contact the faculty or staff member in charge of the course or program and take the necessary steps to legitimize this work or arrange for credits as necessary.
Duties and Responsibilities: As our reference Intern, you will have a wide range of duties and responsibilities that will test your critical thinking and problem solving skills. You will actively apply information that you have learned from your coursework and get real world experience. You will be actively involved in all of our processes and procedures.
Your mission-critical duties may include:
- Providing support to the public services team in the provision of circulation and reference services including document delivery, interlibrary loan processing, shifting, shelving and answering inquiries.
- Maintaining, upgrading, and troubleshooting issues with equipment like printers, computers and servers, office computers, printers, and other equipment as necessary.
- Interns may research print and online materials as need to obtain satisfactory resources for our patrons.
- Interns may be asked to research unusual issues the law school encounters.
- Interns may be asked to help create signs, events, and guides.
- Interns may produce multimedia material for web and video.
- Interns may be asked to ensure security and web compliance for all web-published materials.
Skills and Qualifications: An AMSL intern must take direction well and be a motivated self-starter. Interns must be open about and excited to learn new technologies. We are looking for an intern with diverse skills and knowledge. You must have at least sophomore standing and be currently enrolled in a library related field.
Other skills and traits that will be required or very helpful include:
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Excellent general computer skills, especially troubleshooting and routine repair.
- High level of patience and experience with researching problems in person or remotely.
- Hardworking, diligent, proactive, and quick to learn new tasks.
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
- Customer service-oriented and quick to learn techniques to best serve clients efficiently while following guidelines and procedures.
