Intern, Media and Editorial, Public Affairs

Overview

The United Nations Foundation links the UN’s work with others around the world, mobilizing the energy and expertise of business and non-governmental organizations to help the UN tackle issues including climate change, global health, peace and security, women’s empowerment, poverty eradication, energy access, and U.S.-UN relations.

This internship works with members of the UN Foundation Public Affairs team, specifically in the editorial team and is managed by Senior Communications Officer Serena Jiwani.

Internship Expectations

  • Spearhead a new project to research and advise the UN Foundation’s podcast pitching strategy.
  • Assist in conducting research across a range of issue areas in support of Foundation communications.
  • Assist with researching new data for blog posts and other editorial content, drafting press releases, statements, memos, and stories of impact and other materials.
  • Assist in monitoring press on UN Foundation and UN issues—scanning for news stories on the UN and/or issues affecting the U.S. – UN relationship for circulation and the UN Foundation website, as well as, assist with determining which media contacts and outlets we should pursue in our outreach.
  • Provide support with Press Database Maintenance.
  • Provide support with outreach projects, press calls, press release distribution, and help with UNF-sponsored special events.
  • Support the overall work of the Public Affairs team.

Selection Criteria

  • Candidate must be enrolled in a degree-granting program during the internship or must be a recent graduate (within 8 months of graduation) of a college or university with a demonstrated interest in the UN and international development.
  • Candidate is ideally expected to work full-time, though we are able to accommodate students’ schedules as needed.
  • Ability to take initiative and be a self-starter – while also contributing to a strong team environment.
  • Fast learner with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Experience with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Interest in the United Nations, International Affairs, and/or the non-profit sector highly preferred.

Benefits and Compensation

The United Nations Foundation offers unpaid semester-long full and part-time internships.  We are happy to host interns who are able to receive academic credit or a stipend through their college or university. However, please note that it is not a requirement in order to intern with us.
