Assistive Technology Internship Description

The assistive technology (AT) intern will work closely with the Regional Assistive Technology Specialist. The AT Specialist is responsible for managing AT Act activities within the Northwest Florida region. The AT intern will assist with day-to-day responsibilities of the AT Specialist. This is an unpaid, part-time internship with start/end date and remote work flexibility.

Responsibilities:

· Assists in AT device demonstrations, short-term loans, training, and information and assistance activities.

· Assist in posting items to the AT list, sanitizing, and donating items, and redistributing items.

· Assists in the shipping and inventory activities for the Statewide Device Loan Library

· Assists in public awareness activities.

· Attends potential AT device vendor meetings.

· Collaborate with Regional Assistive Technology Specialist in creating presentations & presenting to community members.

· Participates in special projects assigned by the Regional Assistive Technology Specialist.

Qualifications

· A strong desire to learn about AT services and devices.

· Willingness to teach others how to use devices.

· Believes and works towards equality for all people.

· Willingness to collaborate with AT Specialist and other FAAST personnel.

· Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills.

· Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with team and community members.

The Florida Alliance for Assistive Services and Technology (FAAST) is the state of Florida’s assistive technology program. We offer services such as assistive technology device demonstrations, device trainings, device loans, information and assistance, and device reutilization.

Founded in 1994, FAAST is the assistive technology program as mandated by the Assistive Technology Act of 2004, Public Law 108-364 and §413.407, Florida Statutes. Our Mission is to improve the quality of life for all Floridians who have disabilities through advocacy and awareness activities that increase access to and acquisition of assistive services and technology.

We do this by providing acquisition, access, public awareness, training, and technical assistance services to Floridians with disabilities as well as state agencies, for and not-for-profit corporations, community partners, and grassroots movements.
