Plymouth State University Digital Collection Development and Maintenance Internship

The Lamson Library at Plymouth State University in New Hampshire offers an opportunity for MLIS students to gain experience evaluating and enhancing metadata, as well as learning basic digital preservation standards. The requirements of this internship will be satisfied entirely online.

Plymouth State University’s Digital Repository, hosted on the CONTENTdm platform, contains thousands of items including images, publications, and data from departments across the PSU campus. These materials require periodic review and re-evaluation, both to enhance access as well as to ensure digital preservation.

This intern will work under the guidance of the Digital Projects Librarian to develop, organize and maintain PSU’s digital collections. The intern will receive instruction in evaluating and enhancing metadata as well as an introduction to digital preservation.

Students will meet with the Digital Projects Librarian for one hour each week via Skype; the remaining 9 hours per week will be spent on project work as assigned by the Librarian. Hours are flexible. Available fall, spring or summer terms.

Salary:  N/A

Qualifications:

All applicants must be currently enrolled in a master’s degree program in library/information science. In addition, the successful candidate must have the ability to manage and prioritize their workload and must be able to work independently.

Other requirements include:

  • Experience searching online databases
  • Flexibility, accuracy, and attention to detail in work

Preference will be given to applicants with coursework in the following subjects:

  • Digital Libraries; Metadata; Cataloging
