Internship opportunity at FSU Libraries: Research Data Management

The Research Data Management Intern focuses their efforts on providing research and information related to the management of research data. The intern will work on continued development of FSU’s data management team by providing research and information services around the management of research data.

Learning Objectives:

  • Gain an understanding of best practices in data management and the lifecycle of research data
  • Assist with the development of data management plans for different funding agencies within a variety of disciplines
  • Become an effective data steward who facilitates the access, preservation, and sharing of research data.

These learning objectives will be accomplished through regular readings in current literature on the topics, integration into current ongoing projects, active engagement with students, faculty, and staff throughout the University, and a specific project related to the interns area of interest.

Activities may include: meetings with project and work-area teams, hands-on skills development for projects, research and development for nascent projects, generation and production of a personal research project.

Responsibilities:

  • Works with Data Research Librarian on varying projects; the specific projects related to these efforts will depend on the progress of each program and interests of the intern
  • Works collaboratively with faculty to assist researchers in the development of data management plans
  • Provides feedback for establishing policies and strategic planning for Data Services
  • Maintain a reflective blog or journal throughout the internship

Qualifications

Required: Interest in academic librarianship, research data management, and digital scholarship. If working as a remote intern, appropriate technology is required (personal computer, webcam, secure internet connection).

Recommended: Comfort and advanced competency with various information technologies including chat, Google docs, online research, database searching and basic web tools.

Hours

This is a part-time position with the expectation of 10 hours of work per week in which the intern will earn 3 credit hours towards their MLIS degree.
