We are currently seeking interns to fill the following internship positions within our agency:
The selected intern for this placement will gain a better understanding of geospatial terminology, geospatial analytic and data management techniques, cartographic skills and become familiar with various applications used within the GIS unit. Intern will use ArcGIS Desktop 10.3 to edit Division specific datasets and perform various geospatial analytics using a variety of ArcToolbox toolsets to accomplish specific Division projects, as well as, use ArcGIS Online to create web map and web applications to support natural hazard risk assessment projects. Intern will learn how to use FEMAs HAZUS modeling program to run scenario based hurricane and/or flood models.
External Affairs Social Media
The selected intern for this placement will further the Divisions social media presence through updates to the Division social media plan, as well as daily social media posts on Division platforms. Intern will do so by understanding primary Division messaging and draft daily posts for our Facebook and Twitter accounts. Track engagement on social media platforms and advise on social media policies for ESF14 (External Affairs) and the Division. Intern will be encouraged to explore new social media options and techniques and work with supervisors to research, update and implement the Divisions social media plan.
Preferred Skills: Utilizing social media in a professional environment; creating organizational plans and policies. Communications experience preferred but not required.
The selected intern for this placement will further the Divisions public education and outreach program through redesign of materials and participation in outreach events. Intern will field and fulfill outreach materials requests from stakeholders, participate in outreach events and research new opportunities. Track outreach impact through analytics submitted by stakeholders as well as Division events.
Preferred Skills: Ability to use Adobe Software Suite (specifically Adobe Illustrator); graphics experience is a plus but not required.
